Study Description and Objectives:

Panel Intelligence engaged a set of eight endocrinologists to discuss data presented at the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 68th Scientific Sessions about GLP-1 analogs including Novo Nordisk’s LEAD trials about liraglutide (NN221), Amylin Pharmaceutical and Eli Lilly’s Byetta®  (exenatide) and exenatide LAR, and Roche Pharmaceutical’s study of taspoglutide (R1583) in an online panel discussion.  Secondary objectives of this study included the following:

§    Understand the current clinical experience with Byetta for type 2 diabetics.

§    Analyze the results of Novo Nordisk’s comparative liraglutide studies with rosiglitazone, glimepiride, and insulin glargine.

§    Analyze the liraglutide vs. Byetta head-to-head LEAD 6 study.

·     Assess the likelihood for FDA approval of liraglutide.

·     Assess the potential impact of FDA approval for liraglutide on the use of Byetta.

§    Analyze the efficacy and safety results for the Byetta vs. exenatide LAR study.

§    Analyze the efficacy and safety results for Roche’s taspoglutide dosing study.

§    Discuss the possible impact FDA approval of liraglutide, exenatide LAR and taspoglutide might have on the use of Byetta and other current diabetic therapies.
