Objectives:
To determine the impact of the current economic crisis on expenditures at not-for-profit hospitals in the United States
§ Rate the impact the economy has had on hospital financial strength over the past year, identifying particular areas of concern
§ Evaluate and predict past, present, and future hospital expenditures based on the current financial crisis
§ Identify the tactics hospitals are using to cut down on expenditures, including which specific expenditures are cut first and which ones are cut last and the factors that determine the order of cuts
§ Measure trends in inpatient admissions and procedure volumes (in particular hip and knee replacements and spinal fusion surgeries)
§ Calculate the effect of the economy on working capital at NFP hospitals
