Study Description and Objectives
Primary objective: To understand users’ perceptions of the Impella 2.5 percutaneous circulatory support system and expectations for its adoption. Secondary objectives are to:
§ Predict adoption of the Impella 2.5 system by application, particularly in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
§ Compare product with intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs)
§ Explore concerns about pace of clinical trial enrollment
§ Assess familiarity and experience level with the product
§ Assess physicians’ desire to routinely use the product
§ Predict timeline of routine use and understand if information currently available is adequate or if physicians are awaiting additional clinical data
§ Explore economics of adoption and use, particularly relative to IABPs
§ Assess experience with reimbursement, if any
§ Determine if economics is a driver from the hospital (technical fee) perspective, or from a physician (professional fee) perspective
§ Explore safety concerns and comfort level with the product
§ Gauge overall opinion of the system
